We recently completed a short timeframe Social Media Branding project for Mersive, a Denver-based Software company. The project included updates to Social Media channel header images, to pull in the latest design elements from a recent website redesign, and other print and design collateral the Denver company is not using in marketing it’s products.
YouTube, Facebook, & Google+ Banner Design
For this social media branding project, we looking mainly at designing new branded banner images for YouTube, Google+, and Facebook pages for Mersive. There was some new design collateral for the Mersive brand that incorporated abstract background patterns and textures in the header area of print marketing materials, but also overall design aspects of the Mersive.com website needed to be taken into account. Additionally, each social media channel has different design specifications for their social media banners sizes and dimensions, and we wanted to be sure to have the most consistent brand experience across all social media channel.
YouTube channel headers are sized at 2560 x 1440 pixels, with different areas of that document exposed dynamically depending on the device viewing their YouTube channel. The Google+ header image size is 2120 x 1192 pixels, and has a different functionality, where they take a portion of the photo and blur it out behindsome profile details, but more is exposed on the page based on the viewing device. Facebook page banners are the smallest and simplest of the bunch, sized at 851 x 315 pixels, with no hidden content or complex considerations to take into account during the design phase of the project.
For the social media branding design itself, several abstract background layers were manipulated in Photoshop to bring out the brand color pallet, and create a vibrant region in the middle of the banner for the Mersive logo and tagline. It was important in the design of these banners to insure that the greens in the Mersive logo design were not overpowered by the background colors, and the Mersive font and tagline remained legible. As you can see in the images below, each social media channel used the banner designs in a slightly different implementation, but in each case the social media branding is effect and clear for the Mersive Brand.
